Research and development of ECLS system
- Ecmius Biomedical is a Canadian company invested in the research, development and future production of Extra-corporal Life Support (ECLS) technologies. It aims to address the shortcomings of current clinical systems and to improve patient recovery and cost containment. Our technology will ultimately lead to a higher number of saved lives, shorter hospitalization times and significantly lower costs to healthcare systems everywhere.
ECMO has been around for 60 years
- ECLS is an umbrella where a lot of technologies are hosted, one of them is ECMO (Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation). ECMO was invented by Dr. Bartlett in Ann Harbor, Michigan, in the 60s and 70s to treat premature babies with lungs development issues. ECMO has remained confined to the pediatric realm, seeing very little innovation due to lack of market, till the mid 2000, when the first flu pandemics of the modern era happened and ECMO started to be used on adults and on expanded pathologies.
Lifesaving Technology
- ECMO is a very complex lifesaving technology (just google :” ECMO saved my life”) that provides extra-corporal circulatory (pump) and respiratory (oxygenator) support to very sick patients experiencing either circulatory or respiratory failures or both concurrently.
